A well-loved footballer has died after a battle with cancer.

Kent Football United goalkeeper Jordan Dawes from Swanley passed away last night.

The 18-year-old's team announced her death on Twitter, describing her as a "talented, polite, hard-working woman".

Jordan's mum, Michelle Gurr Dawes, wrote a heartfelt message on Facebook which said: "Today our beautiful total amazeballs warrior daughter Jordan Dawes went to sleep for the last time.

"We are heartbroken beyond heartbroken and I don't know how we are ever going to continue without our beautiful girl she had soo much life to live.

"Never stop loving and hugging your beautiful children as it's a cruel bloody world out there!"

The post has received more than 1,000 likes and 600 comments.

One comment said: "So sorry to read this, we are heartbroken for you all. Jordan was beautiful inside and out, she touched the hearts of everyone who met her, and even those who didn't. We will never ever forget her and her beautiful smile xxx."

Friends are paying tribute to the popular teenager on Twitter. One tweet read: "Absolutely gutted- Jordan was a great girl and from Keeper to Keeper she was fantastic between the sticks and had so much passion.. another one gone to soon. Rest in Peace now Keeps."

Another wrote: "She was clearly a remarkable woman who everyone was very fond of. Thoughts are with her family, friends and all those at KFU at this difficult time."

Jordan was diagnosed with liver cancer after suffering a stroke last year.

The North Kent College student also played for the Charlton Athletic FC's youth team until she was 16.

In November one of her coaches took to social media to urge people to help, which prompted Manchester United's Spanish stopper David De Gea to donate some gifts.

She received supportive messages from Love Island star Jack Fincham and Chalton Athletic FC women's team manager Riteesh Mishra.
