Adam Gemili is a gold medallist, a European Champion and is now gearing up to compete in next month’s Rio Olympic Games. The athlete is also a Dartford boy.
The 22-year-old, who set a personal best for the 100m sprint during the 2012 London Games, attended Dartford Grammar School and has never forgotten his roots.
In the midst of entertaining his 74,000 Twitter followers with snaps of his new trainers and updates on his intense training regime, Gemili took to the social media platform to remind his fans of where it all started.
He said: “My story started in Dartford where I chased a football. Now I’m in London sprinting after records #NIKE #JUSTDOIT”
He was back in London for the Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
For the sporting sensation, it all began in Dartford when he chased after a football. Now, he is chasing after a gold medal in Rio.
In 2012, Gemili became World Junior Champion for athletics in Barcelona, he then became the European Champion at 200m and 4x100m relay in 2014 and took home silver in the same category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
During the last Olympic games, the Dartford phenomenon missed out on a place in the 100m final by just 0.4 seconds making him even more determined for his second round and it seems he’s off to a flying start.
“We believe we can go out there and challenge the world’s best" - Gemili
Last week, Gemili helped the GB 4x100m relay A team to run the fastest time in the world this year.
The team consisting of James Ellington, James Dasaolu and CJ Ujah stopped the clock in 37.78secs, just ahead of the B team who also cracked 38 seconds.
Gemili said: “We are a great squad and really get on with each other. There has been a lot of hard work from a lot of people to make this team stronger. We are all running really well and are very confident."
The Olympics in Rio get under way next Friday.
