From Hong Kong to Dartford by foot - man walks to thank government for saving family

A man has walked from Hong Kong to Dartford and was given a bed for the night at the Wat Tyler Inn.

Tsz Ling Hong, known as Bosco, started his trip from Hong Kong on October 5 and is planning to arrive in London on Friday where he intends to thank the government for saving his family.

His walk, over 5,000 miles, is in aid of the UN Refugee Agency as Mr Hong’s father was a refugee in the 1970s, having left their home in China for Hong Kong.

The 35-year-old said: “My father and his family were very rich but at that time if you were rich, it was a very dangerous place to be.

"They escaped and made the trip to Hong Kong with nothing but the British government helped them with money, food and a job.

"Without them they wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be here. I wanted to say thank you for saving my family.”

Mr Hong says he brought no money with him and has relied on the help and support of people he meets on his journey.
