Dartford missed out on a place in the FA Trophy quarter-finals following a 3-0 defeat at Gateshead on Saturday.

The result was harsh on Tony Burman’s side who conceded a goal late in the first half and two more in the final five minutes of the game.

Dartford found themselves under pressure early on, but Nathan Fisher was twice denied by good saves from keeper Andy Young.

The visitors’ first chance did not come until 20 minutes was on the clock when Elliot Bradbrook’s shot hit home goalkeeper Tim Deasy's leg.

Young was again called into action foil Jon Shaw after 28 minutes, before Gateshead took the lead after 42 minutes. Phil Turnbull unleashed a powerful 25-yard shot that ended up in the back of the net to give Gateshead a half-time advantage.

Dartford pressed at the start of the second half and Jon Main saw a goal-bound effort deflected away for a corner after 51 minutes.

Shaw missed a golden chance from close range, before Gateshead scored a second to put the game out of Dartford’s reach. Fisher found substitute Brian Wake who lifted the ball over Young and into the net with five minutes left.

The home side added a third on the stroke of full-time when Martin Brittain’s shot was turned in by Kris Gate on the line.
