Gold medallist's challenge at launch of Bluewater Gatorade 10k

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

An international 400m gold
medallist launched the Gatorade 10k run with a challenge to
Bluewater shoppers to beat his record.

Iwan Thomas, 37, had run 400 metres
on a treadmill in a time of 48 seconds.

He challenged people to try and
beat that time.

Our reporter, Rachel Hovenden,
joined in the fun but failed to better Iwan's time.

She managed to do it in three
minutes but feels note should be taken of the fact she was
interviewing and running at the same time.

Iwan was also offering advice
and answered any training questions ahead of the race on Sunday,
June 5.

The KM Group, which publishes the
Messenger, is official media partner for the run and has a team of
11 competing, including chairman Geraldine Allinson.

This year the Gatorade 10K at
Bluewater is celebrating its fifth anniversary and hopes to attract
more than 4,500 participants, from serious competitors to fun
runners.

The race will start and finish at
Bluewater taking runners around the lakes and parkland surrounding
the centre and then onto Greenhithe and Stone.

There is also a 2K run and the
official race village, located near the start line, will have
plenty of entertainment and music for everyone to enjoy.

Bluewater is hoping to exceed last
year’s £25,000 raised for local charities; DGSM Your Choice and the
Dartford and Crayford Sea Cadets.
