Queues stretched back three miles to the Tollgate services in Gravesend after traffic was held for 20 minutes following a collision.

It came as delays were clearing following an earlier crash, which involved five cars, on the opposite carriageway.

Traffic was held for 20 minutes after that incident, at around 11.43am.

Congestion stretched as far back as Dartford Heath towards the M25.

Police dealing with that were then called to the scene of the second crash.

“Patrols and Highways officers attended the scene where no injuries were reported.”

Speaking about the first accident a spokesperson said: “We were called to a collision involving five vehicles on the eastbound carriage of the M2 near Bean.

“Patrols and highways officers are currently at the scene where no injuries have been reported.

“One lane is closed to traffic while arrangements are made to recover some of the vehicles.”

Congestion has now cleared.
