The Queen turns 90 today and there is no shortage of ways to mark the milestone in Dartford.
Not content with celebrations taking place on her actual birthday, Her Majesty’s milestone will inspire a host of street parties, picnics and other community events throughout the next two months in the run-up to her official birthday on June 11.
Among the festivities taking place today (Thursday) is an afternoon tea at Dartford Scout Hall in Lower Heath Lane, organised by Maggie Scholey and the Dartford Association for the Disabled, which recently celebrated its 53rd anniversary. It takes place from 2pm until 4pm.
Retired residents in Stone can also enjoy an afternoon tea next Friday from midday until 2pm at Stone Pavilion.
On May 21, a fun day will take place at Temple Hill Square from midday until 4pm, organised by St Edmund’s Church. The church will then play host to an over 60s tea dance from 1pm until 4pm on June 9, before more events sweeps through the area that weekend.
On June 11, from midday, there will be parties in Knights Manor Way and Invicta Road, both in Dartford, and Pavilion Fields and Swanscombe Park, both in Swanscombe and and at The Foresters pub in Great Queen Street, Dartford.
The following day 400 people are expected for a big lunch at Telford Square, Dartford at midday, with parties in Ingress Park, and Greenhithe at the same time.
Brent Lane in Dartford will host a street party and senior citizens can enjoy a tea dance at the Royal British Legion’s Greenhithe branch, both from 2pm.
Last but not least, a traditional British fete will take over Sutton-at-Hone Recreation Ground, although the start time is yet to be confirmed.
