Chris Powell suffered his first defeat as Charlton Athletic manager after losing at Hartlepool United on Tuesday night.
A 2-1 defeat at Victoria Park in League 1 ended a run of four straight defeats for Powell since taking over the management reigns.
Powell’s side trailed at the break to a 14th minute goal from Andy Monkhouse. He was quickest to react to Gary Liddle’s header from a corner that hit the bar, but Charlton improved in the second half.
Liverpool loan-man Nathan Eccleston (pictured)levelled the scores with 54 minutes gone, with a cool finish, after being picked out by forward Pawel Abbott.
Charlton were undone again by a set-piece and it proved to be the decisive moment in the game, as Liddle nodded home a corner shortly after the hour mark.
The Addicks came close to levelling again late on after Bradley Wright-Phillips stabbed an effort against the crossbar. The follow-up by Ecclestone was saved by Scott Flinders.
