A teacher at a Dartford theatre school that helped set Bond girl Gemma Arterton on the road to stardom, has resigned.
The Messenger exclusively revealed that Robbie McGovan had been “temporarily relieved of duties” from Miskin Theatre, part of North West Kent College, back in July.
The college has since stated that Mr McGovan will not be returning to continue his role of academic director of arts at the Miskin.
Rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted, the Miskin Theatre has previously produced stars such as Arterton, who starred in St Trinian’s and the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.
Mr McGovan, whose wife Marie has worked as head of the costume department at the theatre, is understood to have been at the Miskin Theatre for more than 20 years.
Productions did continue to be rehearsed and performed at the theatre including ones Mr McGovan directed such as Oh! What a Lovely War, despite his absence.
A spokeswoman for NWKC said: “Robbie McGovan’s suspension from his employment, as academic director for the arts department at North West Kent College, has been lifted and the allegations against him have been dismissed.
“Sadly, Robbie has now decided to tender his resignation from the college.
“Robbie has provided the college with exceptional service over the last 24 years and he leaves with our thanks and best wishes for his future endeavours.”
NWKC did not want to discuss what the circumstances were around Mr McGovan’s suspension or who would be taking his role on a permanent basis.
