Police were called and brought the horse to safety by about 3.40pm.

The unwelcome visitor on the highway comes just hours after traffic was brought to a standstill on the M26 when a herd of cows decided to cross the motorway.

The M26 was shut for four hours in both directions earlier this morning between Junction 3 and the M25 and A21 while the 20 cows were rounded up.
