We’ve all been there, planned a big day out filled with shopping, cinema trips and dinner out - but it just hasn’t lived up to what we wanted.
The one time you’re prepared to spend your money, you can’t find anything, then you can’t decide where to eat or what film to see and your perfect day crumbles into an afternoon of stress and exhaustion.
Bluewater has linked up with a psychologist Dr Nick Knight who has come up with three ways making the most out of our entire day simply by following what our body clock, rather than our watches, tell us.
With ten more years of washout summers forecast from the Met Office today - it seems we will be spending more time inside shopping centres like Bluewater.
9am: Get Up and Out
Stress hormone cortisol, central to our ‘fight or flight’ response, is at its highest natural level at this time and it sets us up for physical activity.
So if you’re planning a serious shop around the two-storey centre that’s the time to start.
2pm: Don’t make any big decisions
This is the time we slip into the physical and mental trough known as the ‘post-lunch dip’.
If you need to really concentrate or rush around doing the hard-choice shopping get it in before lunch.
Then enjoy a relaxed meal at one of Bluewater’s 60 restaurants - on the off chance we get a bit of sun, you can even eat outside next to the lakes.
Alternatively catch-up with friends, or enjoy an afternoon movie.
If you still haven’t found what you’re looking for and need to keep shopping, try doing it the easy way - enlist the help of one of Bluewater’s personal shoppers and let them do the hard work for you.
6pm: Exercise
This is around the time we get our 'second wind', as our core body temperature rises to a peak and helps to boost our energy levels.
Now’s the time to finish all the things you couldn’t get done in the morning, or get some exercise having a stroll around Bluewater’s lake and walking trails.
The rest of the evening should be spent relaxing - either by watching a movie sat in one of at the Showcase Cinema’s luxury chairs or having an indulgent meal.
With ten more years of washout summers forecast from the Met Office today - it seems we will be spending more time inside shopping centres like Bluewater.
So you may as well start now, on the predicted hottest day of the year - which is nothing but grey and miserable.
