A pet owner has issued a warning after her puppy was left wounded and in need of costly vet care following an attack by another dog.
Nicola Bishop was out taking an evening stroll in Ingress Park, Greenhithe with her mum’s French bulldog when it was set upon by what she believes was an Alaskan Malamute.
The dog was left with bite holes in his neck and Nicola’s mum Carol had to foot a £117 vet bill.
Describing the attack, which happened at around 7.30pm last Thursday (November 9), Nicola said: “We were out walking Milo and this woman with the dog was nearby.
“We asked her if he was friendly to which she said yes and then let them introduce. Then the other dog just went for Milo.
“I had to pull the dog’s mouth open to get him off Milo.”
Nicola is grateful the situation was not any worse as she said if her mum had been attacked too the results could have been far worse.
“Normally she would walk him on her own but I’m so glad I was with her,” she said. “She isn’t very well and suffered a heart attack a couple of years ago.
“It’s so lucky the dog didn’t her go near her as she is on blood thinners and bleeds out very easily. So it can be very dangerous.”
Nicola said Milo, who is only 10 months old, was withdrawn for a few days after the attack but they didn’t notice any physical injuries until a few days later.
“Because of his fur we didn’t notice the wounds until the Sunday when they started pussing,” she said.
Milo was taken to the vet where the puncture holes were washed out and he was given a course of antibiotics.
Nicola is now warning other dog owners to be aware and has issued a description of the other dog.
“He had a jet black face and was back and white in body colour,” she said. “The owner said he was three years old.
