A young boy who has raised tens of thousands of pounds for a cancer charity will be packing a punch when he steps into the spotlight with two famous names from the boxing world.
Jonjo Heuerman, 10, of Leyton Cross Road, Wilmington, has been invited to take part in a question and answer session with former World Boxing Union champion Micky Ward and his half-brother Dicky ‘The Pride of Lowell’ Eklund when they appear at Priestfield Banqueting Suite in Gillingham in May.
The story of their lives was portrayed in the Oscar-winning film, The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale.
Jonjo, who raised more than £63,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK when he walked from Wembley to West Ham a few weeks ago, was knocked out by the invitation from their UK tour promoter.
Mum Donna said: "I always ask him whether he wants to do an event or not and after I told him about this one he was doing cartwheels!
"I find it quite bizarre that someone so small has been asked to do a Q&A. Jonjo loves it though."
The West Ham supporter has been spurred on in his many challenges by the memory of his Nan, who died of bowel cancer.
He was waved on his way on his latest walk by footballing legend Trevor Brooking and Bobby Moore’s widow Stephanie.
The charity believes the amount of publicity Jonjo has given them is worth well over £1million, and he is due to speak to the House of Lords next week.
"Gaby Roslin recently interviewed him and said he was fantastic," added a proud Donna. "His response was ‘I’m good on radio but much better on TV!"
"Jonjo just takes it all in his stride. A lot of people have said he could sell sand to the Arabs and ice to Eskimos."
