Two women trapped by large grass fires that sent huge plumes of smoke into the sky have been rescued by firefighters.
Crews tackled the flames in a "difficult to access" area in Stanhope Road, Swanscombe, where the two women were trapped in a quarry, unable to leave due to the blaze.
Three fire engines arrived just after 4pm and crews used hose reel jets to put out the fire - after it was extinguished they led the women to safety.
Police closed the road.
A fire service spokesman said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service is receiving a number of calls about a fire in Swanscombe.
"There is a lot of smoke in the area but three fire engines are at the scene and firefighters are tackling two large grass fires in a difficult to access area in Stanhope Road.
"Motorists are asked to avoid the area please due to a road closure."
