A gym has been given the green light for a £160,000 upgrade at a recently revamped sports centre.
The White Oak Leisure Centre in Swanley is set to expand and improve facilities for its members.
It is run by Everyone Active, who work in partnership with Sevenoaks District Council.
The old centre, which was built in the 1960s, was deemed to be coming to the end of its life and too expensive to run.
Instead, a brand new £20m replacement was built next door.
It opened in February 2022 and featured a 25m six-lane swimming pool, 100-station gym and fitness suite, two exercise studios, cycling studio and a sports hall.
Everyone Active has now been given the go-ahead by the council for a £160,000 project to upgrade the gym facilities.
This will include the installation of additional stations and equipment, upgrades to the gym flooring, as well as protective flooring in the weight training area and decor improvements.
The news comes after the council secured £612,950 to fund new solar panels – helping to cut the centre’s carbon footprint.
It is one of ten swimming pools to receive a share of a £60m handout from the government.
Cabinet member for people and places, Cllr Lesley Dyball (Con), said: “It’s great to be working in partnership with Everyone Active to upgrade the very popular gym.
“These improvements mean many more people can enjoy this fabulous facility.”
General manager of Everyone Active, Ashley King, added: “We’re really excited to get started on the project to make our new gym even better.
“We hope these new facilities will be a big hit with our 4,000 members and encourage even more people to sign up to White Oak.”
The work, funded by Everyone Active, is set to begin in mid-August.
It will take around two weeks to complete. The leisure centre will remain open during this time.
