Charlton boss Phil Parkinson was singing the praises of midfielder Jonjo Shelvey after he scored in their 2-1 win at Leyton Orient on Tuesday night.

After trailing to Tamika Mkandawire's header, Shelvey (pictured) and Deon Burton made it three wins out of three in League 1 for the Addicks.

"His performance typified the team's performance," said Parkinson, reflecting on Shelvey's contribution.

"In the first half he was charging round and could have got sent off. In the second half he relaxed and did what Jonjo Shelvey does, which is giving us great quality on the ball and also great running power from that position.

"Football is all about learning curves. When you are 17 years of age and get booked early in the game, you've got to make sure you don't let the team down and get sent off.

"And that's what he did, he showed a cool head and that's why he is going to be a good player."

Mkandawire put Orient ahead in the 27th minute when he headed in Charlie Daniels' free-kick.

Charlton levelled in the 64th minute when Lloyd Sam set up Shelvey to fire in.

The winning goal came six minutes from time after an error by Mkandawire let in Burton to score.
