You have probably wondered what it might be like to live as a celebrity, and you will be able to sample some of that life of luxury this weekend.
Celebrity manicurist Stephanie Staunton, from Greenhithe, has painted the nails of Hollywood stars like Scarlett Johansson, and is inviting thousands of people along for treatments at the O2 Arena on Sunday.
The 28-year-old has secured one of the largest suites at the venue’s Intercontinental Hotel and a team of 350 fellow experts in the hope of smashing the world record for most nails painted in eight hours.
Beauty Connection Spa at Dubai Mall set the record with 5,193 in February 2014, but Stephanie is aiming for 6,078 — the number of people who committed suicide in the UK in 2015.
Stephanie explained: “I’ve suffered with bipolar disorder since 2009. It didn’t really cause me any problems – since 2012 I’ve been a stable aside from being a little bit socially awkward – but last year I had a catastrophic breakdown.
“My life started spiralling out of control and I attempted suicide, which left me recovering physically for 12 weeks. When I came out of hospital I had a 14-week wait for counselling.
“It’s a huge issue – we know more about nail polish than we do about mental health. It’s so poorly funded and one of the biggest killers that our world faces.”
Stephanie is dedicating her world record attempt to mental health charities like Mind and the Samaritans.
Treatments at the Nailing Mental Health event will be available between 10am and 6.30pm and cost £5. All money will be split among the charities.
Just turn up on the day but you can register your intent to attend by searching for ‘Nailing Mental Health’ on Facebook.
