Families have been enduring long delays on the M25 this afternoon as the Bank Holiday getaway got into full swing.

Traffic snaked back for six miles on the anti-clockwise carriageway between Swanley and the Dartford Crossing.

Journeys along the congested stretch were taking around 40 minutes from about 4pm and delays were expected into the evening.

Meanwhile, there was also heavy congestion on the M25 clockwise carriageway between J2 (Darenth) and J3 (Swanley).
