A man has appeared in court after a police officer was assaulted in Swanley.
The incident is reported to have happened on Thursday May 7, after patrols were called to a reported disturbance in Laburnum Avenue.
George Groombridge, 30, was arrested and later charged with breaching a restraining order, assaulting an emergency worker and resisting a constable in the execution of their duty.
He was further charged with causing criminal damage in connection with an allegation he spat in a police vehicle.
Mr Groombridge, of no fixed address, was remanded by Medway Magistrates’ Court to appear before the same court on Friday May 15.
The Assaults on Emergency Workers Act came into force in November 2018 and created a new offence of assault against emergency workers - including police, paramedics, nurses and other blue light workers. It also provides tougher sentencing powers for judges.
