A tower of floral tributes stands tall at the spot where a man was involved in a hit and run on Saturday.

He has been named locally as Tom Rossiter, but formal identification is not due to take place until 2pm today.

One note found at the scene on Tuesday read: "RIP Tom Boy, you was good for this world boy, nobody deserves to be taken the way you were, may God give you the best bed in heaven, god bless your family, sleep tight. From Lenny, Shelley, and children."

Another note read: "You'll never be forgotten mate love Donna Danny and girls."

A third tribute read: "To Tommy, no one deserves to go the way you did. RIP. Love from Kizzy, Aunt Angie, Morrisa."

The Swanley man, who was in his 40s, died following a hit and run in a residential part of town on Saturday. Locals said he lived in the area surrounding the crime scene.

The victim was reportedly hit by a car and dragged along the road for 100 metres.

He was taken to Darent Valley Hospital where he later died.

An acquaintance, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "He was nice to talk to. I used to see him and say hello when I used to take my kids to school.

"He seemed a nice guy. It's tragic what's happened."

Another woman, who also did not want to be named, was at home near where the man was struck. She said: "I have been living here since 2002 and I have never heard of anything like this."

The woman did not see the incident happen, but said she noticed a pool of dark liquid on the road where the man was struck which she thought may have been blood.

A police spokesman said: "Officers were called to Lynden Way just after 3.15pm. The car failed to stop after the incident.

"The man’s next of kin are aware and officers are currently with the family."

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is being asked to call 101.
