A man has died following a kitchen fire in a flat.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire at a flat in Priory Road, Dartford on yesterday (Sunday) morning.

Two fire engines were sent to the property at 7.45am and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish a fire in the kitchen.

A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Officers from Kent Police, paramedics and fire investigators attended.

The fire is thought to have started accidentally and the death is being treated as non-suspicious.

The cause has been linked to an electrical fault.
