British Transport Police launch investigation after 23-year-old man is stabbed on train as it arrived at Swanley station

A man is in hospital in a serious condition after he was repeatedly stabbed on a train as it arrived at Swanley station.

British Transport Police detectives have launched an investigation following the attack at 8.15pm yesterday on a train travelling from Gillingham to London Victoria.

The 23-year-old received multiple stab wounds and was treated by paramedics before he was taken to hospital. He remains there in a serious but stable condition.

According to an air ambulance mission report, he suffered wounds to his chest and stomach.

Detective Inspector Andy Rose, leading the investigation, said: "I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, and has not yet come forward to police, to do so as a matter of urgency.

"We treat all incidents involving knives extremely seriously and the public can be assured that we are doing all we can to find the person responsible."

Investigators are studying CCTV footage of the incident and are pursuing several lines of inquiry.

The train was taken out of service following the incident and examined by specialist forensic officers.
