Dartford boss Tony Burman praised his side’s clinical finishing after they moved 11 points clear in the Ryman League Premier Division on Tuesday night.

The Darts won 5-2 at Canvey to keep their title charge on track, with leading scorer Lee Burns grabbing another brace.

After being held 1-1 at home by Cray Wanderers on Boxing Day, Burman was delighted with the response made by his team.

"It was great to finish the year on a high," said Burman. "We know the form has been disappointing in December for whatever reason.

"We had a disappointment on Saturday but we asked the players to bounce back and they did."

Dartford scored four second-half goals to take their tally to 29 goals in eight away games this season.

"We’ve been a little bit disappointed with the conversion rate recently," admitted Burman, who paired Rob Howarth and Lee Burns up front. "Although we don’t think we have created as many chances as we should have been.

"We want to increase our lead, that’s the aim. We’re not worried about other teams, we just want to win games."

Burman has boosted his squad with two signings in the last seven days.

Midfielder Ryan Johnson has joined after being released by Welling, while Joao Carlos completed his move from Aveley in time to come on as a late substitute against Canvey.

Lee Noble (ankle) could return on Saturday when the Darts make the trip to Cray Wanderers

Burman’s men take on Boreham Wood at Princes Park on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
