Don't be surprised if the pavement surfaces around Hawley start thinning in the next few months - the Curran family will be out in force pounding them as they prepare to go head to head in the London Marathon.
The race will be the first marathon for 22-year-old Kate Curran together with brother Ford, 25, and mum Sue, 54, who are aiming to raise over £6000 for SportsAid (supports young talented athletes), Whizz-Kidz (supports disabled children in the UK) and Sparks (children's Medical Research charity).
Dad Kevin is no slouch himself , but this time the former Ironman triathlete won't be competing but will instead put his efforts into cheering his family on from the sidelines.
Trainee solicitor Kate, of Royal Road, Hawley, has previously represented Great Britain as a junior triathlete, and is aiming to beat her boyfriend Jay O’Nien, 24, who is aiming to run below three hours in what will be his second marathon.
"It will be incredible running together in such an iconic event, " said Kate. "We all have very different running backgrounds."
While Kate has made the comparatively easy switch from triathlons to long-distance running, mum Sue only took up running two years ago after completing the "Couch To 5k" programme, but now competes regularly for her running club 'So Let's Go Running' (SLGR).
Kate added: "My brother is also relatively new to running and fits his training around his work as private tutor in the Kent area. I am aiming for a sub 3.30 marathon. My brother is hoping to finish in around four hours and my mum in 4hours 30."
Both Kate and her mum have set up online fundraising pages: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/katecurransportsaid https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/suecurranmarathon.
