A memorial bench has been installed close to where a schoolgirl was killed by a drug driver.

The wooden seat, with a memorial plaque and a stone set in the grass, is outside Dartford Fire Station in Stone, Dartford and has been put in by fire crews to remember Lily Lockwood.

Lily was just 10 years old when she was mown down by a drug driver in Watling Street, just metres from her home, in July 2021.

Ex-cabbie Gavin Prodger, 53, from Rochester, is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for causing her death while having excess drugs in his system, including cocaine.

Lily’s mum Nicola Waters said: “What Dartford Fire Station has done for us as a family has just been truly amazing.

“They have gone above and beyond to make sure we have a special place we can go to remember our beautiful Lily.

“We can’t thank them enough for everything they have done and are still doing for us through their kindness and support.”

Lily was fatally injured while on her way to the shops with friends to buy sweets.

The Brent Primary School pupil was struck by a yellow Audi S1 near the junction with Meadow Way.

She was taken to King’s College Hospital and was put on life support but despite the best efforts of doctors she died shortly after on July 12.

A medical cause of death was given as "catastrophic brain injuries" related to a road traffic incident.

Nicola, who also has children Mia, 18, Taylor, 16, and Courtney, seven, used to visit a make-shift memorial at the station and is delighted to have somewhere permanent to remember her daughter.
