Nicky Forster's second-half penalty ensured Charlton took all three points from their trip to MK Dons on Easter Saturday.
The win sees Phil Parkinson's side move to within two points of the automatic promotion places after Leeds United's shock 3-0 defeat at home to Swindon Town.
Forster, on loan from Brighton until the end of the season, scored his first goal for the Addicks on 65 minutes. The striker converted his spot kick after he was brought down in the area by Sean O'Hanlon.
Charlton keeper Darren Randolph made two fine saves to secure the win. First he denied David McCracken's header and also smothered at the feet of Jermain Easter.
