Footage shows moment biker crashes with car on A2 Dartford bypass

by Martin Cutler

This is the moment a motorcyclist smashed into the side of a car on a busy bypass during rush-hour.

The incident happened on the A2 near the Dartford bypass heading eastbound on Thursday, June 9, at 6.33pm.

Police attended and the motorcyclist reported an injury but did not require medical attention.

David Horney captured the crash on his rear facing dash cam, but did not stop as many others had already run to the assistance of the biker.

As the video begins traffic is moving slowly across all three lanes. Moments later the driver of a Gold Ford Kuga in the inside lane indicates to merge into the middle lane.

The nearside wheel of the vehicle crosses the line at which point the driver immediately turns back - presumably spotting the motorcycle in their mirrors.

The biker hits the side of the car and is thrown from their motorcycle.

They do not hit any other vehicles and immediately stand up as other motorists run to their aid. The clip ends as the driver gets out and the biker gestures to them.

Project manager, David, 50 said: "There was slow moving start/stop traffic on the A2, suddenly from behind I heard aloud bang, I looked in my mirror and saw a motorcyclist slide across the road.

"When the traffic stopped again I looked over to see if they were okay, I saw other people getting out their vehicles so I drove on.

"I recently had a rear camera fitted so I checked it when I got home that evening and found the footage captured."

Edmund King, AA president, said: "The message here is for all road-users to always be alert. Just because you are in slow-moving traffic does not mean you should not pay extra attention.

"Drivers need to always ‘Think Bikes!’ and bikers need to always ‘Think Vehicles’. Luckily this did not result in a much worse result."

Police confirmed it was called at around 6.40pm on Thursday, June 9 to a collision involving a car and a motorcyclist on the coastbound carriageway of the A2 near Dartford.

A spokesman added: "Officers from the British Transport Police stopped at the scene and spoke to those involved. The motorcyclist reported an injury but did not require medical attention."
