Darford MP Gareth Johnson, will be flying to Cyprus next week in the hope he can get answers about the murder of George Low and the attempted murder of his friend, Ben Barker.

Mr Low was 22 when he was killed near a nightclub in Ayia Napa on August 14, 2016.

Mr Barker, who was also 22 was with him at the time, was also stabbed and seriously injured but survived the vicious and unprovoked attack.

Despite there being at least two suspects for the murder, no one has ever been charged or even arrested for these crimes.

Mr Johnson said: “I am travelling to Cyprus to seek answers for the families of George and Ben and to try and kick-start the investigation into this dreadful crime which seems to have stalled.

"These crimes have had a devastating impact on the lives of two families and their friends and the fact the suspects are free is only adding to their heartache.

“The two suspects in the case, Sali Ahmet and Mehmet Akpinar, both fled to Northern Cyprus after the attack and were arrested there for unrelated offences.

"Both men are now free, having been released without charge, despite being the main suspects and subject to a European Arrest Warrant and an Interpol Red Notice.

Mr Johnson added: “I have regular meetings with both the Foreign Office and the families of George and Ben, but it is now more than two years since the attack and very little progress appears to have been made.

“As the MP for Dartford, I am not prepared to allow this matter to continue to drift so I have decided to travel to Cyprus to do what I can to obtain justice for George and Ben. I will be meeting with senior police officers and government officials, both in the North and South of Cyprus, to ascertain what is happening with the investigation and the international efforts to bring those responsible to justice.

“A Dartfordian has been murdered in Cyprus yet nobody has been held to account.

"This is not something I can accept, none of us can.

"So I hope this visit will help to reignite the investigation.”
