Find your armbands, floats and dig out your old goggles – Fairfield Pool has opened its door again after two years.
Around 1,000 people visited Fairfield Leisure Centre, Lowfield Street, Dartford, when it officially opened after a £12m refurbishment on Saturday.
New operators, Places for People Leisure, held pool float and lane swimming sessions in the main pool, which has been given some much needed attention.
Badminton, a bouncy castle, cycling classes and gym inductions were also on offer and Callum Stirling, contract marketing manager, said people were queueing down the road for their chance to see the new facilities.
Mr Stirling said: “The day was a really great success; we had been 800 to 1,000 people visit us.
“People were queueing out of the door and down the road. We set up marquees for them.”
The new centre boats a large gym space, studios and a sports hall.
For swimming, it offers a teaching pool, diving zone, learners’ pool and a main pool. Under eights are able to swim for free, if parents register online, and swimming lessons will be held from Monday.
Mr Stirling advised parents to complete an inquiry form online, and staff will aim to respond within a week, due to a high volume of inquires.
There is also a sauna, an activity room and a cafe at the centre and the changing rooms and main reception area have been given a lick of paint.
The Messenger received an exclusive tour of the new Fairfield centre in October.
Speaking at the time, Dartford council leader, Cllr Jeremy Kite was delighted with the progress.
“I think it will make such a difference for the town,” he said.
“It has been a long time waiting for it. I think when people see it they will be really pleased with it, hopefully it will last another few decades.”
There will be memberships that cover all of the gym, pool and classes, as well as just the pool or gym. There are also junior, adult, family and concession options.
Junior gym inductions will take place from Monday and sports courses and parties are also available to book.
