Two of north Kent’s bravest police officers were among the many honoured at an awards ceremony.

Detective Inspector Simon Thompson and Detective Sergeant Matthew Long were given commendations and certificates of merit at a special ceremony at Kent Police College in Maidstone.

They led an investigation into a man who attacked a 19-year-old with a Samurai sword in Dartford, on January 21, last year.

The attack resulted in a horrific wound to the victim's forehead, which fractured his skull.

Through their diligence and hard work the offender was brought before the courts and sentenced to six years in prison.

Chief Constable Michael Fuller said: “I never fail to be inspired by the selflessness shown by the winners of these awards and it gives me enormous pride to thank those receiving them, not only on behalf of the force, but also on behalf of the wider community.

“The individuals receiving these commendations should be rightly proud of what they achieved and accept them in the knowledge that the force is equally proud of them.”
