Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a property yesterday afternoon.
Four fire engines were sent to Hardy Avenue, Dartford, at about 3.10pm. Crews donned breathing apparatus and used a jet reel to put out the blaze which was under control by about 4.20pm.
Paramedics were at the scene to deal with the victims.
One resident described how neighbours gathered on a small mound opposite the property to see where it was coming from.
He said: "I saw thick black smoke billowing out over our backgarden.
"I'm surprised there is not a lot more damage."
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, believes the fire originated in a conservatory to the rear of the property.
She said the occupant has now vacated the house after the smoke made it inhabitable.
"I believe she has gone to live with someone as firefighters have told her it is too toxic inside.
"They were here for about two hours – I don't think they were helped by the wind."
Firefighters were seen returning to the cul-de-sac this morning as they delivered fire safety advice to residents.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "It’s believed the fire started accidentally but due to the severity of the damage, the cause is unknown."
