Two people arrested after footage emerged of a baby being given a cap of vodka have been released by police.

The chilling 14-second clip of a woman, believed to be the child's mother, from Dartford, pouring alcohol into a cap and giving it to them sparked outrage last month.

Two people were arrested after police were called to an address in Dover on June 21 following reports of a disturbance.

But now the force has confirmed both people have been released under investigation pending further inquiries.

During the video, which was shared hundreds of times on social media, a woman can be seen pouring the drink out and tilting the baby's head back before pouring it into their mouth.

A man from Dartford, believed to be the child's father, is seen in the background oblivious to what is going on.

In August a police spokesman said: "Upon attending, officers were made aware of concerns for a child at an address in the area.

"Actions were taken to safeguard those involved and a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of child cruelty later the same day."

But earlier today, a spokesman said: "The two people previously arrested have been released under investigation and enquiries are ongoing."

The duo received backlash from hundreds of people after the video was shared online.

One woman, who didn't want to be named, said: "It's very sad. I posted about it on Facebook but it kept getting removed.

"I have contacted social services who said the baby is safe, but they are still with their parents."

Kent County Council confirmed it was aware of the incident.

A spokesman said: "I can confirm social services are aware of this and have taken appropriate action."
