Sixteen suspected illegal immigrants have been arrested after they were seen running from a lorry in Dartford.

PC Martin Taylor tweeted: "16 people have been arrested in #dartford this morning on suspicion of illegal entry to the UK #police

Asked by a Dartford councillor whether it was part of a police operation, Mr Taylor said officers received a call after the group were seen running from a lorry.

Witnesses say the group were sitting down near the Sainsbury's depot when the police arrived.

A police spokesman said: "A number of people were arrested in Dartford this morning on suspicion of illegal entry and are being dealt with by immigration officials."
