Hundreds of young music lovers went along to an illegal rave held in Greenhithe last night that was shut down after police and other emergency services were called to the scene.
A 999 call was made during the get-together which claimed the roof of the building, in St Mary's Road, a former nursery, had collapsed and ravers were trapped inside.
Four fire engines, ambulances and police were called to the scene, but the call was found to be a hoax after police and found the building intact with ravers still dancing inside.
One nearby resident who didn’t want to be named, said: “The amount of sirens going off last night, you’d have thought it was a major disaster.
“The emergency services gathered in positions close by to rave in St Mary’s Road and it also affected trains as platforms were closed until the trains were in the station, to avoid anyone getting on the tracks.”
Another Greenhithe resident, Harry Ace posted this picture on social networking site, Facebook.
He posted: “Kids have a rave at absconded building.”
Police said they dispersed the gathering after being called at about 10.15pm and one man was arrested and later release without charge.
A spokesman added: “Kent Police received a report at 10.15pm on February 4 that a large gathering was taking place at a disused property in St Mary’s Road in Greenhithe.
“Officers attended and dispersed those present.
“One arrest was made; a 36 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of breaching the peace, but was later released without charge.”
