Traffic held due to police incident on M25 Dartford Crossing

There are delays for traffic heading into Kent after a 'police incident' on the M25 Dartford Crossing.

All vehicles were held on the clockwise carriageway for 15 minutes from about 6.50am.

The outside lanes were reopened but the inside two lanes remain closed for a number of hours while officers investigated.

Reports suggested the closure was for accident investigation work - although it is believed the cause was the discover of an abandoned car.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at around 6am to the M25 near Dartford, following concerns for the welfare of a person on the southbound carriageway.

"Patrols remain at the scene where enquiries continue. One lane is currently closed to traffic."

As of 11am, the queues were stretching back more than two miles to beyond Junction 30 for Lakeside and Junction 29.

But just after 11.30am, Highways England tweeted to say all lanes had reopened and the congestion was easing.
