A stray pug found with a deformed right hip will feature on an episode of a hit ITV show championing pooches in need.

One-year-old Stan has now found his forever home in Dartford after dog wardens discovered him wandering the streets of London with a limp on his back right leg.

After having X-rays at Battersea’s centre in London, vets discovered the pug’s hip deformities which had most likely been caused by a previous trauma.

He had to have surgery on his hip and a recovery plan was put in place using the charity’s physiotherapy and hydrotherapy teams.

As part of his recovery the poorly pooch also received a course of laser therapy, which uses light energy to target cells, helping to reduce pain and inflammation

Stan was able to recover in the weeks following and has now found his forever home in Kent.

His story will appear in the third episode of For The Love of Dogs with new host Alison Hammond who has taken over the reins from the late Paul O’Grady.

Sarah Sargent, who adopted Stan, said: “Stan’s cheeky personality is shining through every day and he has made best friends with our dog Lola who we rehomed from Battersea 10 years ago.

“We’re so grateful to Battersea for all the care that Stan received, he sounds like he really took it all in his stride and we can’t wait to give him a lifetime of love”.

Battersea rehoming and welfare manager Rebecca Verne added: “Stan has really had a lot thrown his way early on in life but this young boy dealt with all his treatment so bravely.

“We may never know the circumstances that led to Stan being left alone on the streets with a painful injury.

“But thankfully he was able to get the specialist treatment he needed from our teams who go all in every day to give rescue animals the vital care they need”.

For the Love of Dogs will be airing at 8pm tonight (April 30) on ITV1 and ITVX.
