A SCHOOL ravaged by fire has been shut down for a week.
Staff closed Hextable School following a fire which ripped through a music room and knocked out the facility's entire power supply.
Students will not return to the Egerton Avenue school until Monday, September 14, when bosses hope the clean-up will have been completed.
Students on vocational courses at other schools are asked to attend those as normal.
Headteacher Peter Dalton said: “This was a very distressing incident and has caused great inconvenience to so many. Because of the damage to the power supply it is going to take us a few days to get a temporary solution in place. We’ve also got to do a thorough clean and make sure everything is in place for the students to start work."
An investigation has begun into what caused the blaze on Sunday morning.
Fire crews were called to the scene at about 4.30am and at its height more than 20 firefighters were involved in the operation.
Parts of the building had to be stripped away in an effort to tackle the blaze and crews were dampening down until around 8am before handing the site over to the police.
No-one was hurt in the incident.
