The first phase of town centre improvement works are edging closer to completion.
Works to resurface and pedestrianise parts of Market Street in Dartford are due for completion in late September.
Dartford council is looking to transform the tired and confusing road layout around the High Street and better link it with Central Park, with more space for events and activities.
Once completed this new space will be called Brewery Square and will include new green spaces.
To complete these works it will be necessary to put in place full road closures along Overy Street, Market Street and Lowfield Street over the next three weekends.
Work had stopped on site on March 24 as the country entered into lockdown.
This has meant the completion date for the project has had to be put back and extra costs were also incurred as a result.
Re-starting on site on May 11 also required additional measures for social distancing in terms of vans, toilets and equipment.
However, leader of the council Jeremy Kite noted that works in the town centre were now progressing well and that the new car park at Acacia Hall should be in place by the end of the year.
The next phase of works to the High Street are now out to tender with a return date in August while works to the road junctions will go out to tender shortly.
Improvements to the junctions on Instone Road and Highfield Road, are scheduled to commence in January 2021.
