A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out today on a man found dead at Dartford Heath.

Kent Police are working to establish the cause of death after the body was discovered last Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the heath, between Heathclose Road and Heather Drive, at about 12.20pm following the discovery by a passer-by.

Officers cordoned off an area around the heath, at the Shepherds Lane entrance, where the man's body was found.

A police spokesman said detectives were working to establish the circumstances of the man's death.

Sealing off a large stretch of the woods, forensic officers in white overalls were seen entering the area where the body had been found.

Neighbours opposite said they did not know what was going on when police cars and officers arrived.

One man, who did not want to be named, said: "It's terrible really isn't it?

"Poor man. I saw them all turn up but didn't have a clue what was going on."

The death is not believed to be suspicious and the man is not thought to be local.

The body was removed from the site on a trolley by private ambulance at around 3.30pm.

Tape was then removed from around the woodland before officers left.
