Scores of residents were furious last night after council chiefs approved plans for a fish and chip shop in their street.

Dartford Borough Council’s planning committee gave the green light for the take away to be built in a shopping parade in Chastilian Road despite the opposition.

Opponents claim there are enough takeaways in walking distance from the site and also voiced concerns of noise, litter and anti-social behaviour.

But, committee members said the weight of public concern was not a ‘material consideration’ following approval from Kent Police, Kent Highways and Environmental Health.

The decision was met with jeers and sarcastic clapping from more than 30 opponents at the meeting in the Civic Centre, Home Gardens.
