Sam Webb overcame Matthew Hall on Saturday night at the Royal Albert Hall to put himself back in the hunt for the British title.

Swanley's Webb (pictured) lost his light-middleweight crown to Prince Arron in May last year at Medway Park and hasn't been in action since.

But his win over Hall in the final eliminator for the British title will land him a fight to regain the belt if current holder Brian Rose overcomes Kris Carslaw in June in what will be his third defence. That would then set up a Webb-Rose championship bout.

Saturday's 12-round match was closely contested and Webb only won it on a split decision, with one of the judges giving Hall the win 117-112.

But with the other two judges siding with Webb it is him who now looks set for a chance to claim British honours.

On Friday night, at the Liverpool Echo Arena, a third straight defeat befell Swanley's Martin Welsh.

Light middleweight Welsh was making his fourth appearance in the ring in just five weeks but he came off second best against Mark Thompson, losing 59-57 on the referee's scorecard.
