Waking up on Christmas morning is an exciting sensation for us all.
The promise of presents, turkey, too much chocolate; some even look forward to seeing old friends and extended family whose names they can’t remember.
For a group of friends from Dartford, though, none of that will compare to the thrill of making their television debut.
Will, Dan, Spencer, Harry and Max are set to appear on a special festive children’s edition of Channel 4’s much-loved Gogglebox, dubbed Gogglesprogs.
Having grown up together at St. Paulinus Primary School, the boys have a natural chemistry which impressed producers and is sure to entertain viewers come Christmas Day.
“My mum sent in an application and they liked us, so they put us through,” explained Will, 11.
“I really enjoyed it all, just relaxing with my mates and watching shows we haven’t seen for the first time.”
Among the shows on the listings were the Great British Bake Off and The X Factor, and they were even made to watch a portion of May’s exhaustive election coverage.
Harry, 11, admitted to being rather horrified by a scene from a BBC wildlife show, but a few beloved seasonal hits lightened the mood.
“It was quite sad because we watched a baby elephant almost die on Growing Up Wild,” he said.
“We watched a lot of Christmas themed films as well like Frozen and The Snowman. Overall I think we really liked it.”
The local lads are one of ten groups of youngsters to appear on the show following a strenuous auditions process stretching back to August.
With plenty of competition, the group clearly have something special to have landed a role.
“I think they liked us straight away because we are a group that have known each other for ages,” said Spencer.
Max, 11, admitted that the group aren’t even huge TV viewers, making their success all the more impressive.
“As a group of friends we’re not big TV watchers - we love being out and about on our bikes,” he said.
“But it was good fun filming - it took quite a long time but we made each other laugh a lot!”
Dan, 12, agreed with Max’s assessment of the experience: “You get to spend time with all your mates, just chilling and laughing, it was really fun.”
Gogglesprogs is on Channel 4 at 8pm on Friday, Christmas Day.
