An investigation to find a person has been launched after a car was found abandoned in the River Darent.

Officers were called to the stream besides Holmesdale Hill in South Darenth shortly after 9pm last night following reports a car had submerged into the water.

They were joined by firefighters who assisted rescue crews to clear the area.

A single occupant is reported to have got out of the vehicle before leaving the scene on foot.

Police say inquiries to locate them are ongoing.
