A security guard was threatened and robbed by two balaclava-clad men outside a vilage bank today.

Police were called to Lloyds Bank in New Ash Green at 11.30am after reports the man was pushed up to a wall and forced to open a cash box.

He received minor injuries during the attack.

Witnesses claim he could have been robbed of as much as £25,000 in cash.

Detectives are investigating the cash in transit robbery and have urged witnesses to come forward.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at just before 11.30am on Thursday 29 January to a report of a robbery in New Ash Green.

"It was reported two men threatened a security van driver on The Row, before leaving the area with a cash box.

"Officers are at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."

A G4S spokesman said: "We can confirm that the crew of one of our Cash in Transit vehicles was attacked during a violent incident in New Ash Green, during the morning of Thursday 29 January, while servicing a local Lloyds branch.

"The crew received minor injuries during the attack.

“We are committed to maintaining the safety of our staff and the general public.

"G4S Cash Solutions (UK) continues to work closely with trade unions, the police, the Government and relevant local authorities to develop initiatives to prevent attacks against those working in the cash-in-transit industry."
