A serial burglar who committed a spate of break-ins over four days has been locked up.
David Howard, of Keyes Road, Dartford, committed each of his offences during the day and stole thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.
Now the 53-year-old is beginning a seven-and-a-half-year prison term after admitted four counts of burglary, one attempted burglary and three counts of handling stolen goods at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday.
The court heard Howard burgled four homes in Dartford, and attempted to steal from another, between November 3 and 9.
The first offence took place in Meadow Way and saw the back door forced open and jewellery stolen.
CCTV from a nearby property captured Howard on camera during the time of offence.
Two days later homes in Invicta Road and St Vincent’s Avenue were targeted, with tools again used to force open back doors.
Watches, old coins and numerous items of jewellery were stolen and Howard was once again recorded on nearby security cameras.
Finally, in Watling Street on November 9 Howard stole belonging from a home after smashing a window and clambering through. He also tried to get into a neighbouring home.
He was once again caught on camera.
Howard was arrested in Byron Road nine days later after officers first executed a search warrant at his home address.
Inside they found numerous items which were believed to have been stolen from the burglaries and when Howard was arrested, he was found wearing a gold coloured watch that had been reported stolen.
Detective Constable Rob Sircar said: "I am pleased that we have been able to secure a strong, custodial sentence for a repeat offender who has caused a lot of distress to his victims.
"Not only did Howard violate the victim’s privacy, he caused significant damage to their property and stole items of sentimental value.
"There is little doubt that residents in Dartford are safer with Howard in custody."
