Charlton threw away a three-goal lead at Shewsbury as they went crashing out of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.
Pawel Abbott’s quickfire double, his first goals for the club, gave Paul Parkinson’s men the perfect start, and when Lee Martin added a third with a long range strike, the youthful Addicks were well in control.
However, League 2 Shrewsbury fought back, with a Jake Robinson strike and an own goal from Yado Mambo, leaving them within touching distance at the break.
Daniel O’Donnell headed home an equaliser with half an hour to play, and the sensational comeback was sealed when Matt Harold eluded the Charlton defence to nod in the winner.
The defeat was the third time in as many years that Charlton have fallen at the Carling Cup’s first hurdle.
