Emergency repairs at the Dartford Crossing have caused six-mile queues on the M25 this morning.
The East Bore tunnel was closed earlier to carry out a fix to damage on the carriageway.
At about 6.45am drivers were warned the only route through on the clockwise M25 was through the West Bore tunnel.
Shortly after 7.30am the eastern tunnel had reopened but residual delays have caused jams to tail back as far as J3 for Swanley.
Traffic has eased in the hour between 7.30am and 8.30am but queues remain in the area between J2 (Darenth Interchange) and J3.
Kent Highways said delays are now starting to clear with Traffic England saying normal traffic conditions should resume from about 9am.
