A state-of-the-art cinema room, including a 98-inch screen, surround sound and lighting, has been donated to a children’s charity.
Families often do not take children with disabilities to cinemas as they are loud and busy so the new facility at Beams, in Hextable, near Swanley, means they will be able to enjoy a film in a similar but safer environment.
Community interest company Together for Cinema designs and installs home cinema rooms and chose to donate one to the charity, which offers overnight respite care and clubs for youngsters with complex disabilities and learning difficulties from across Kent and Medway.
Head of charity at Beams, Katrina Adams, said: “The new cinema room is a wonderful addition to the Beams facilities, the technology and huge screen is a luxury and something we could only once dream about.
“It is sure to bring a lot of joy to our disabled children and young adults, with the added benefit of relieving stress and anxiety in an inclusive environment, we feel incredibly lucky.”
It will be used for watching films, playing games and for parent support, training sessions, and fundraising events.
Faversham-based computer and electronics company Ideaworks installed the project at the centre in St David’s Road.
The room was officially opened on October 25.
