Charlton suffered their first League 1 defeat of the season with a frustrating loss at Stevenage on Saturday.
Former Addicks youngster Stacy Long (pictured) claimed the winner at Broadhall Way to bring an end to Chris Powell's side's 12-match run to begin the campaign.
Long - who never made a first-team appearance for Athletic - cut inside on 12 minutes and let fly with a shot which deflected wickedly past Ben Hamer off Stevenage striker Byron Harrison.
The Addicks had the chances to earn something from the game but in the second-half Bradley Wright-Phillips pulled a shot across the face of goal when clean through and Leon Cort - back in the starting line-up - saw a header superbly saved by Chris Day.
Mark Roberts went close to a second for Stevenage at the other end, looping a header of Hamer's bar.
Huddersfield's 4-0 win at Exeter on Saturday took them second, just a point behind Charlton.
