Teenager Tom Brooks cycles from London to Brighton to raise money for Darent Valley Hospital in memory of dad Pete

A teenager has raised more than £2,000 for a hospital cancer fund in memory of his dad in a charity cycle after spotting a poster while walking through the wards.

Tom Brooks, 15, entered the London to Brighton ride to raise money for Darent Valley Hospital's Rosewood ward where his dad Pete was cared for before his death in January.

He was accompanied on the 54-mile challenge by his uncle Kev.

Before the cycle, Tom set up his own fundraising page on Doitforcharity.com and obtained sponsors to more than double his target of £1,000. So far, he has raised £2,085.

His mum Lynn said: "I never doubted for a moment that Tom would complete the ride, although he has never ridden 54 miles before, he never gives up on something that he sets out to do, although there may be moaning and groaning along the way!

"I think it really helped him having his Uncle ride with him, who has known his Dad for 25 years.

"I am incredibly proud of Tom not only for his achievement in completing the 54 mile cycle ride, but also for thinking of other cancer patients and how he can help them after the loss of his Dad.

"I would also like to thank my colleagues at work who have supported both me and Tom since January, and for their very kind donations for the Cancer Fighting fund."

At the finish line in Brighton, Tom and Kev's supporters congratulated the duo wearing Team Tom t-shirts.
